In 1850 & 1860 census, listed as head of household with Sara Black.  For the 1870 and 1880 census, listed as head of household with Mary Deens (2nd marriage).

 

He apparently is buried next to his first wife, Sara A. Black in Whistler Cenetary.

 

After second marriage, he moved  from Saltcreek Twp to Pickaway Twp.

 

After the death of Sara Black (2/7/1865), Lemuel Boggs was appointed guardian on July 15, 1873 of the following minor children of Abrham Penn:

OHIO

ONE HUNDRED and FIFTY-FIFTH INFANTRY

(One Hundred Days)

 

 

One Hundred and Fifty fifth Infantry. - Col., Harley H. Sage; Lieut.-Col., Roswell Shurtleff; Maj., Peter Lutz. This regiment was organized at Camp Dennison, May 8, 1864, to serve for 100 days. It was composed of the 92nd battalion, Ohio National Guard, from Pickaway county, and the 44th battalion, from Mahoning county. Immediately after muster-in it was ordered to New creek, W. Va., and upon arrival was sent to Martinsburg, where it performed garrison and escort duty until June 3, when it was ordered to Washington, D. C. From there it proceeded to White House, thence to Bermuda Hundred and City Point, where it remained until the 29th, when it was ordered to Norfolk and there placed on duty in an entrenched camp. On July 26, 500 men of the regiment, with other troops, marched to Elizabeth City, N.C. The expedition returned to Norfolk, where the regiment remained until Aug. 19, when it was ordered to Ohio for muster-out. It arrived at Camp Dennison on the 24th and was mustered out on the 27th.

JOHN E. PENN whose valuable farm of 168 acres of well cultivated fertile

land is situated in Pickaway township was born March 27, 1852 in Salt Creek

township, Pickaway County, Ohio and is the son of Abram and Elizabeth (Black)

Penn.

 

Both parents of John E. Penn were born in Salt Creek township. The paternal

grandfather, Abram Penn was born in England and accompanied his parents in

bovhood to America and grew to manhood in Pennsylvaiiia, He learned the trade

of ship carpenter but chose farming as his his occupation and came as a

pioneer to Salt Creek township, Pickaway County, Ohio, where he developed a

farm out of the forest, He was succeeded by his son Abram who resided in

Salt Creek township until 1867 when he removed to Pickaway township where

he resided for over 20 years. He died in 1889 in London, Ohio. He married

Elizabeth Black, daughter of a pioneer of Salt Creek township and they

reared five of their nine children as follows:: Samaria, wife of Andrew

Dresher of Difiance County, Ohio, John E. of this sketch, George of King-

ston, Ohio, Rollin F. of Madison County, Ohio and Oliver of Springfield,

Ohio,

 

John E. Penn was reared to the age of 15 years in Salt Creek township and

then accompanied his parents to Pickaway township where he has lived ever

since. His education was obtained in the district schools and his agricul-

tural training from. his father. He has always followd agricultural pursuits.

On his present farm upon which he settled in 1899, he carries on general

farming, and raises some stock. He has made a number of substanial improve-

ments.

 

In FebrJary, 1881 Mr.. Penn was married to Mary I. Hunter, who was born in

Ohio and is a daughter of Joseph Hunter, formerly a resident of Pickaway

County and later of Madison County, Ohio. Mr. & Mrs.. Penn have four children

namely: Bessie A., Lyman E., Emest F, and Hazel B.
