Front page headlines, Chillicothe Gazette, summer of 1963!
There are only 3 occassions where the McFerrin family made headlines
news in the local newspaper. One was my grand-uncle when he accidentally
shot and killed one of his daughters in KY. The second one was when our family
in Chillicothe had their family dog quarentened due to rabies. The third
appearance was myself with 2 of my pals building a talking robot.
Click here to view the newspaper account and picture.
What's in a Name
Today our family spells the McFerrin name as McFerrin but it
wasn't always that way. It is rumored that my grandfather
Charles O. McFerrin changed
the spelling from McFarrin to McFerrin to get rid of a bill
collector trying to collect someone else's debt. We have no idea whether
this name change was done legally or not.
The birth certificate of Charles O. McFarrin does verify the original
spelling of McFarrin. It also list his parents as Eliza and Harrison McFarrin. I have
determined from 1870KY census records that Harrison was from Indiana
and his mother's name was Elizabeth and was living with Harrison and his
wife in 1870.
Harrison spelled his name McFerrin in the KY census.
In the KY 1860 census, I found Harrison older brother named John McFerrin. Their mother Elizabeth was living with John during that census. Harrison was living within a few household numbers of Harrison during the same census.
Harrison later moved to Ross County Ohio. In year 2005, I discovered that Harrison's
brother John also moved to Ross County Ohio. The wrinkle here is that John changed the spelling of McFerrin by dropping one of the "R"s from the name.
Today, there are many descendants of John McFerin still living in central Ohio!
Thru KY marriage records, I have determined with great certainly that
the father of Harrison and John McFerrin is named Aaron McFerrrin.
No other information is available.
Release 4.0 of McFerrin Family CD went out in Oct 2001
The final release of the McFerrin Family CD was released in 10/2001.
A total of 50 CDs were shipped to the various McFerrin family members
and our relatives.
I wanted to get the first version out to all of you without delay
because we never know when a person might expire from this earth and if that
would happen, the McFerrin Family CD would never get finished.
This CD contained many contributions by family members and our relatives.
They included
photos, geneology data, and audio clips.
There arel some very important convience additions to the CD. With
version 4.0, you will be able to use your web browser (e.g. Internet
Explorer and Netscape Communicator) to view all of the photos on the CD.
You will also be able to view the entire collections in organized groups
as a slideshow.
Version 4.0 also contain some MP3 audio clips of family members
telling of stories. Who knows, they might be talking about you.
With version 4.0, you don't have to install any software
from the CD if you already have a web browser.
Just insert the CD and click away.
You can view everything with your browser;
including geneology information. There are of course be a few optional
programs on the CD should you desire to install and use them.
Release 6.0 of Our Family History CD coming out soon
Since the release of version 4.0 of the McFerrin Family CD in 2001, my research
of the McFerrin Family name has yielded a larger family. In order to be
fairer to our expanded families, the next CD (version 6) will be titled
"Our Family History CD". I'm anticipating this CD to be release around
Jan of 2007. Feel free to contact me concerning updates or additions to
this CD. Members of other families may want to check out my
Genealogy Service.
